The Ballad of Lampshade Ed

Sometimes you hear a song and either like it or not at first play. This song I cannot truly decide if I like it or not. I can tell you however that as I played it through a few times, “The Ballad of Lampshade Ed” by The Curse of KK Hammond did indeed grow on me. Read on for more about “The Ballad of Lampshade Ed” by The Curse of KK Hammond song review by Dashal Jennings.

A Little Less Than 3 Minutes

The tune is a little less that 3 and one half minutes long which is a good length for a radio tune. Problem is that this is not what I would consider a radio cut. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of artists I follow are less than highly commercial musically. I just don’t see it being out there with the masses.

Swampy blues

The song is a nice swampy blues number that just meanders along heading off and bringing you along for the ride. There are some nice slide pieces going on which is an instrument that gets overlooked today. My main thought is that it sounds like they took a lot of time in the process of recording the song. The main part of any song is the lyrics and it seems as if the vocals are using an effect to obscure them.

Don’t bury the lead

When writing a breaking news story, we are taught to never bury the lead. When a producer obscures lead vocals, it is like burying the lead of a story. That is never a good idea. I think that if you have something to say and are willing to spend money to record it, then it should be there and easy to decipher what the singer is saying. “The Ballad of Lampshade Ed” as done by The Curse of KK Hammond is not something that will reach out and grab you; it’s more like cuddling with an old partner.

Haunting

The melody is haunting me as I write this so there may be something there that has yet to reach me so I guess I’ll just have to listen just one more time. Maybe The Curse of KK Hammond is on to something with the production of the Cajun blues feel. Maybe just maybe there’s a little voodoo in the mix? If you don’t hear from me for a while, you’ll know why.

In conclusion

“The Ballad of Lampshade Ed” by The Curse of KK Hammond song review by Dashal Jennings is one admittedly mysteriously catchy tune.  You should take a listen.   Other places you can find KK Hammond music: Website:  www.thecurseofkkhammond.com
