Does America think Trump should testify at trial

Normally when there is a trial, attorney’s for the Defendant advise against testifying.  In the case of Donald Trump, his testifying is an attorney’s nightmare.  One of the reasons his lawyers would advise against his testifying would be because he lies.  It is a well known fact that Trump lies.  So we ask this question: Does America think Trump should testify at trial?

This video is a sample of what it would be like to have Trump testify:

 Temper Tantrums from the stand

First of all, he would throw a temper tantrum from the stand.  Secondly, he would talk over anyone asking him questions. He would raise his voice when he wasn’t getting his way. Trump is expert at being obnoxious and throwing people off their game. He would bully and bluster his way through testimony.

Prior Depositions

It has been reported that when Trump has been disposed in previous court cases, he has thrown the same type of temper tantrums. Sometimes it was thought that they wrapped things up quickly just to get him out of the room.  Maybe that has always been his strategy.  Yell the loudest, be the meanest and they will want you gone.

On January 6, 2021, pursuant to the 12th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, the Vice President of the United States, the House of Representatives, and the Senate met at the United States Capitol for a Joint Session of Congress to count the votes of the Electoral College.

In the months preceding the Joint Session, President Trump repeatedly issued false statements asserting that the Presidential election results were the product of widespread fraud and should not be accepted by the American people or certified by State or Federal officials. Shortly before the Joint Session commenced, President Trump, addressed a crowd at the Ellipse in Washington, DC.

There, he reiterated false claims that “we won this election, and we won it by a landslide”. He also willfully made statements that, in context, encouraged—and foreseeably resulted in—lawless action at the Capitol, such as: “if you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore”. Thus incited by President Trump, members of the crowd he had addressed, in an attempt to, among other objectives, interfere with the Joint Session’s solemn constitutional duty to certify the results of the 2020 Presidential election, unlawfully breached and vandalized the Capitol, injured and killed law enforcement personnel, menaced Members of Congress, the Vice President, and Congressional personnel, and engaged in other violent, deadly, destructive, and seditious acts.

    1. Oh, yes. Most definitely. No one, they say, is above the law. After all, if he has nothing to hide, why not testify?

      • Trump simply cannot afford to take the stand. He is a pathological liar and if required to testify under oath, he would perjure himself. Further, he would expose portions of his real despicable self to his base. Very destructive. So, of course he should be subpoenaed and required to testify.

        • He would lie, yell and deny which would add purgery to his charges. If this would take Congress away from more important business, then no, he shouldn’t testify. He is on video tape inciting the crowd. What else do we need.

    2. Ideally, everyone should testify for themselves when they are charged. In this case, knowing our former President’s history, he would likely attempt to take over the trial, make up more lies, and attempt to win others to his cause. He is welcome to do so. What he said prior to his supporters at the Ellipse is a matter of record.

    3. He needs to tell his side of the story to Congress and the American people. If he can’t do so without lying, then he deserves whatever consequences are appropriate. Any senators who aren’t able/willing to listen to testimony and fully review evidence need to recuse themselves. Too bad they didn’t do their job at the first impeachment.

    4. Treason, sedition are worth our worst punishments. Yes, he should have to testify. What he says doesn’t matter as much as the evidence that has been on display for all to see. Why would anyone say no? Because he’s rich? He’s not even that rich. Because he’s famous? Who cares.

      • Yes trump need to pay for what he has done. Even tho he is gonna lie. Yes they should force him to speak. If he doesn’t it definitely means he is guilty. However we all know his is guilty. The Republican will not hold him accountable they will let him get away with murder. Why is he still allowed to get away he is a crime boss.

    5. Of course he should testify. Hillary Clinton stood up to 11 hours of questioning over Benghazi. That killed 4 people. And she didn’t cause an insurrection to overthrow the US government. Trump incited an insurrection at the US Capitol that killed 5 people. He should undergo at least two days of questioning at his trial.

    6. I think for once in his life he needs to explain his actions and he owes it to the American people to have to answer questions about his conduct. Yes he should have to testify TRUTHFULLY

      • I don’t think he’s capable of being truthful. Anything that “threatens” him will be shouted down, lied about and generally misdirected toward anyone who opposes him.

    7. His comments led an act of sedition plain and simple. He is guilty as charged. He should be charged with sedition and imprisoned .What was the goal if the rioters had taken hostages. Would he declared martial law and declared the election void. Then what sedition becomes treason.

    8. Yes, he should be called to testify! If he refuses, he should be cited for contempt and put in jail until he complies. If he throws “temper tantrums”, he should be fined fir contempt. If he lies he should be charged with lying under oath! He should not be allowed to get away with this behavior or he will continue to incite violence and anti-government riots!

    9. I wouldn’t expect him any other way than to bully and rant. Is there no way to close off his mic at some point if he goes off script and doesn’t answer a question?

    10. He must testify, one of the problems is he has been allowed to do whatever he wants for too long so mow he thinks he is above the law. This is the result of not disciplining a toddler…they turn into an unruly teenager! It past time he is held to the rule of the law and held accountable for all of his actions. Enough is enough.

    11. Is he allowed to be charged with perjury when he lies under oath? You know he will lie! He is incapaof honesty!
He needs to testify, answer questions, and be held accountable.

    12. He’s now a private citizen and no one is above the law. He should and must tell his side of the story. It’s the only way to get to the truth of his intentions.

    13. Let him testify. We know he will lie, but at the same time he will throw everyone else who was involved, under the bus. Let him name names.

    14. YES, YES, YES!! He will sink his own ship and he has to be brought to ACCOUNTABILITY for the death of the Capitol police officer, millions of dollars and lawlessness that has hurt our government!!! He is a liar and his presidency should go down as MOST AWFUL PRESIDENT ever!!
He tore our country apart with his lies and demonization!!!

    15. We all want justice. Unfortunately, allowing him to testify only gives him a pulpit to grandstand to his followers. A shouting, bullying, temper tantrum is all we will get. Charge him, pray his lawyers will have him plead the fifth while all his lies and seditious, treasonous actions are read into the record, then send him away for life. He had four years to do right by the people but he failed miserably.

    16. I believe if he testifies he’ll throw fellow GOP’s under the bus. He always throws the blame. It would be a good thing. Those he throws under may change their tune & finally convict him. Then, those to shall be held accountable.

    17. Of course trump should testify.Trump should be convicted. The issue is eventually would he.You’re talking about a person that is dishonest, morally, mentally ethically and inept to tell the truth or even show compassion He will lie, cheat, kill to have is way and, the GOP will do WHATEVER it takes to save him

    18. If he testifies, we know he will lie. If he lies, he must surely know he will be punished further. I think it is worth it to put him on the stand.

    19. Oh, please make him testify! It will be so entertaining! He can’t tell the truth about anything! And the truth will come out!

    20. Yes,he should testify. He should be subpoenaed and if he rejects the subpoena, he should be treated like any other American citizen. What happened at our Capitol on January 6th shouldn’t be swept under the rug.

    21. Here’s a thought put him in a room where no one can hear him and make him see the evidence make him hear the testimony and then lead him out mute.

    22. He should most definitely have to testify. If a subpoena is necessary then get it. Trump will stay in politics with the likes of marjorie taylor green and his minions one way or another. Its time he is held acvountable and the people who enabled him should beheld accountable also.

    23. Yes, he isn’t any better than any other individual that gets charged with a crime. If he is not guilty then he shouldn’t have any fear of telling the truth. (Or I mean the truth as “he” sees it”.

    24. Yes, he isn’t any better than any other individual that gets charged with a crime. If he is not guilty then he shouldn’t have any fear of telling the truth. (Or I mean the truth as “he” sees it).

    25. He should absolutely be compelled to testify and held to tell the absolute truth – and not a depiction of the house of lies that he has constructed for his own comfort and satisfaction.

    26. Yes he should testify but with the stipulation of a mute button. If he insists on talking and yelling, put him in handcuffs and a ball gag

    27. YES! But also Subpoena McConnell, Graham, Cruz, Hawley and the rest of the despicable who are in this up to their neck! This is a Republican strategy move we cannot mistake this for what it truly is!
