Wayne Nelson, front man and bass player for Little River Band and his wife, author Rhonda Nelson (A Different Life) create a unique YouTube Show.  Same Storm Different Boat was born from the idea that during Covid-19, we are all dealing with and handling the pandemic on different levels. The couple have been married for 19 years.  During quarantine, they wanted to do something productive and thought provoking.  In the same vein, they thought it would be interesting to explore the idea of same storm, different boat.

Same Storm, Different Boat

Some people are working on the front lines. Those workers must distance from their own children.  People that work in entertainment have had to stop working all together.  People in education have had to come up with a different way to teach.  The Nelson’s explore all of these factors in their show.

In this particular episode, they interview Rickey Medlocke of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Blackfoot fame.  They dive deep into things like the pandemic and how it is affecting Native Americans.  For instance, they talk about the passing of Charlie Daniels. In addition, Rickey talks about being “angry at his guitars,” when he was forced to stay off stage.

About Rickey Medlocke

Born on February 17, 1950 in Jacksonville, Florida and raised by his grandparents, Rickey was a natural born musician. He inherited some of his talent from his grandfather Shorty Medlock. SHORTY MEDLOCKE  was a well known DELTA BLUES musician. He taught his grandson how to play guitar at the age of three. In addition to Guitar, Rickey learned how to play  Drums, MANDOLINDOBRO AND KEYBOARDS.

Rickey loved to sing and after graduating High School, he formed his first band BLACKFOOT, In Blackfoot, Rickey was LEAD VOCALIST and lead guitarist. Medlocke is of Native American heritage and is extremely proud of that heritage. Most importantly, Rickey was an original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd as seen in the photo above.

To sum it up, after Rickey has been a member of Skynyrd for the past 20 years.  He continued to do select shows with BLACKFOOT. The members of the current Blackfoot were handpicked and mentored by Rickey. Rickey continues to produce, write and looks forward to getting back out and playing again.
