Read on for Nied’s Hotel Band “Merry Christmas Baby” song review by Dashal Jennings.

Sax and Soul

This song, while being a very good Christmas song also reminds me just how much the horns are missed in today’s music. I mean when I listen to this I hear all sorts of classic soul influences from Sax to Motown recordings and early blues to the Temptations and Stevie Wonder. It’s like a whole trip down memory lane to the time when music made you feel good just listening.

Merry Christmas Baby

I have to give Nied’s Hotel Band a handshake for making me go dig out my old soul records.  I dusted off the platter of my Platters album and gave them another spin.  “Merry Christmas Baby” is destined to become another one of those Chestnuts that we dig out as the Yule log rolls around again and play.

Being a musician I know that it is often damn hard to get in the mood to sing Christmas songs since they are often done well in advance of the season. But “Merry Christmas Baby” by Nied’s Hotel Band has a lot of sincerity and go get them that this song needs without making it sound like it’s contrived.

Each time I listen

With each listening I hear something different, like the little lead guitar licks that you hear playing around the melody. To most that may seem like some un-needed fluff. Yet to the musician it is the flavoring that makes the overall texture of the single stand out as professionally done and cared about.

In Conclusion
