Straight from Illinois

It’s been a while since I had the privilege of reviewing a sing songwriter from my birth state in Illinois but today is one of those occasions. As I hit play here in the studio my first impression is it’s finely time and I am listening to a straight forward uncomplicated journey through this mans’ mind. LOVE YOU JUST FOR YOU

With the song “Love You Just For You” John McDonough has written a happy sounding song which is relying on the basics. We listen to the nice acoustic guitar work, drums a bass guitar and a piano pave the way for this journey down the one lane path of his thoughts.. 

UNCOMPLICATED 

The chord pattern seems uncomplicated and yet somewhat complex at the same time. Closing my eyes I feel reminiscent of early hippie songs strained through Paul McCartney’s first solo album. 

HARMONY

I can’t neglect the harmony vocals either. Many artist’s just throw on some vocals.  If they are close and decently auto-tuned, they let them slide on by. Oh the song “Love You Just For You” it would seem that they gave some thought to them. In face they seem to almost take on a life of their own and drag you into the speakers.  

LOVING CARE 

Attention to details in a song like this makes it a grand experience. While the ordinary listener may not pick up on the subtleties, I certainly enjoyed someone caring enough about a simple tune to give it everything it deserves. Therefore, John McDonough does care as you listen to the song it seems to go by way too soon. This is the mark of a well done song when you can make nearly 3 minutes go by like nothing. 

IN CONCLUSION

If you get the chance to buy it please do.  In addition, if you get the chance to watch him perform live please do so. Consequently, unless you support live music and the people that write it, you are doomed to a life of talent less repeats.
