That is the question most fans are acting the producer Frank Valentini and the writers of General Hospital this weekend.    To be totally transparent, I waited until late last night to view the episode as I had heard through the grapevine that the baby was going to die.  I also heard that it would be Mike coming to take the baby into the light.  All of that happened and more happened with tears streaming down my face.  Read on for more about General Hospital fans hearts broken after viewing Friday’s episode.

It is about the fans

I wrote the headline that I wrote because quite frankly it is about the fans.  Without the fans there would be no viewership. Without viewers there would be no show. So lets talk about what happened and why it  happened.  There is just so much ground to cover here I am going to have to bullet point the issues:

  • In a time of unimaginable deaths from a real life virus General Hospital has chosen to ignore on screen, in the season of miracles, why not give the viewers a Christmas miracle?
  • Why write a real life pregnancy into the story line just to make an actress who has become a first time Mom in real life endure this on screen misery?
  •  Placenta Previa and Placenta Abruption does not have to end in fetal death. We should see both Sasha and Brando seek the advice of a malpractice attorney ASAP;  I have real life family experience with this issue. The C-Section should have been performed sooner;
  • Do the actors have any say over these story   lines?  Was Sofia given a choice?
  • While we love Max Gail, it is time to let the dead stay dead.

Deleted scene that should not have been deleted

They give the character of Elizabeth a couple of scenes just to cut one of the most important scenes.  The country’s medical staff are over worked and struggling IRL.  Give them some kudos in the arts. They were much more important in this story line than Carly, Sonny and Nina.

This show is called General  Hospital. The shows producers and writers need to get back to writing more hospital scenes and story lines around the people that actually work at the hospital.  That is how it used to be and it should be that way again. Especially now with our health care workers being the real hero’s of our country, there should be much more of this on General Hospital.

In conclusion

General Hospital fans hearts broken after viewing Friday’s episode

The show did give the viewers two mini Christmas miracles that have been over shadowed by the traumatic death of Liam Mike.  That reminds me, Liam MIKE?  His name was actually Michael so them calling him Liam Mike was almost annoying.  We will now have to sit through the funeral of the death of Liam Mike instead of calling him Liam Michael. Mike is a nickname writers.  I have a brother, grandfather and stepfather all named Michael.  We call or called them Mike but their name is actually Michael. I am probably not the only person this annoyed including the character of Michael Corbin whom Sonny (Michael Corbin Jr.) was supposed to be named after.   Be looking for the piece about the miracles General Hospital did give us.

Before I go I want to say that Sofia Mattsson deserves an EMMY for her performance yesterday. If you have ever lost someone, especially unexpectedly, the primal scream is what occurs at the moment you realize your traumatic loss.  Sofia nailed that primal scream. I can’t imagine what pain this story line has caused her and how draining it has been, while her precious baby boy waits for her in her dressing room or at home.  This concludes General Hospital fans hearts broken after viewing Friday’s episode.

    1. This is just my opinion!, I have it recorded this episode but I haven’t watched it. I don’t understand why the GH writers felt that they had to kill the baby off. I understand they deal with stories that are real but this is a soap opera and with so much tragedy in the world and so much hatred toward everything ,some of us turn to soap operas to see miracles happen. In a real world Alexis Davis would not have gotten so many slaps in her hand for all that she has done. Why is it that all of Sonny’s kids are all born even if they thinks something is going to be wrong with them. They could have used this child as a child with disabilities. That would have been a real story.

    2. Thank you for posting this article. It is very articulate and well-written. You have captured my opinion almost perfectly.

    3. I will be taking a break from GH. There was absolutely NO reason for the writers to kill an innocent baby – especially at Christmas time. The could have written it that Mike came back but got a message from above and left Liam to live. I’m so disappointed that this story ever played. I may not ever watch agin.

    5. It was a totally cruel and unnecessary thing killing the baby I’m very disappointed with general hospital I’ve watched it for years and it has never been this bad the writers killed the baby, made Sonny a wimp, killed Jason and Franco, let Nina keep lusting after Sonny and not letting Carly get revenge. Get rid of Nina, Brando’s mom, and aunt Stella, and please kill off Peter. I could write a lot better storyline.

    6. The story line was just so very sad for this time of year. I haven’t been able to shake the feeling of sadness ever since I watched it. I can appreciate it as I know this happens in real life all of the time. I’ve suffered many losses myself, but GH used to be happy during the holidays. What happened to the good old days? Did they die away with Edward and Lyla???

    7. My first emotion went beyond sadness and straight to anger. I realize the writers must keep the storyline as close to real life as possible but so close to the holidays when mental illness issues and depression are at an all time high? Unlike real life, they did have a choice. They could’ve taken this opportunity to write in a child with disabilities. There are so many children living with disabilities that this would be a real way to connect and hire actors of varying ages that are disabled themselves to portray Liam through the years. Sasha/Sophia should get an Emmy as that was absolutely raw emotion coming through in her performance. Unlike others, I will continue to watch as I have since the 60’s. Yes this episode triggered me because I went through similar experience and lost my first baby in utero. My 17 yr old daughter Domonique (yes named after Dominique from GH) was born premature at 2.5 pounds and we thought we would lose her and she was in NICU for 3 weeks. Christmas is next week and I honestly did not want to relive that heartache because of a tv show stirring up past wounds. I hope the writers can be a bit more considerate of their timing of certain storylines. All in all GH is still my favorite show.

    9. Geez People what in the world is happening ‼️🤮I have been watching for over 50 years & these recent stories are stupid & lasting way to long
      Please don’t insult our intelligence
Loyal fans like my self Just want a better show…..Bring It on in 2022‼️Or there is still a couple soaps left‼️🥱😂💋

    10. Just when you think these writers can’t get any worse, they cross that line too. They keep pushing this Sonny/Nina thing that’s not wanted by most fans. They kill a baby that was the one bright spot in the show watching her and Brando enjoy the anticipation of their bundle of joy. Instead it was a bundle of sadness. Please hire new writers GH.

    11. Thank you, Paige. I’m so glad I’m not the only one that was really annoyed with the Liam MIKE crap. You are 100% correct. Mike is a nickname. His name was Liam Michael. I can’t believe the writers are this dumb. It makes you wonder sometimes.

    12. As a healthcare worker, a wife and mother, I was SO upset that the writers made the decision to kill off a baby at Christmas. Our country has yet another round of the pandemic, and depression is at an all time high. Healthcare workers are losing hope…. This storyline was so poorly timed. Saddened by this…. The actors were phenomenal in their portrayals, but why not have a storyline of hope?

    13. At the very least, I hope we are going to get a mention that Liam’s organs went to other babies who needed them. Please….

    14. This was so cruel and unnecessary. This sweet baby with two parents who loved him and were so excited to meet him should not have died. Why did they feel the need to torture Sasha and Brandon in this way at Christmas time?
Everyone else is absolutely right. The storylines are becoming stale and overused. Enough with Nina and Sonny! I am so sick of them. If he loves Carly and his children so much Sonny should be seeking revenge against Nina for what she put him and his family through. Enough trying to make Nina look like a poor victim. There is NO excuse for what she did. It was selfish and spiteful and she deserves to pay.
PETER NEEDS TO GO!!!! Enough of him escaping death and justice over and over! Drew is back and can it be any more boring? Every character except Olivia has lost their spunk! Sam is boring and insipid. I am just so tired of all of them. It’s really sad.
I too have watched GH for over 55 years and this is honestly the only time I have found myself bored with the storyline. Maybe it’s time for ABC’s last soap opera to go off the air too. We viewers deserve better! GET SOME NEW WRITERS!! Give us a show that we’re excited to watch again!

    15. I lost a child 3 days after she was born. I also have a child on the spectrum. Fridays episode relived the 2 worst days of my life.

    16. I lost a child 3 days after she was born. I also have a child on the spectrum. Fridays episode relived the 2 worst days of my life.

    17. I to did not like the fact that they took an innocent child away from his mother that was so wrong why don’t you take Peter away then everyone came live peacefully

    18. I used to get soo annoyed that GH got interrupted for any little announcement but now I don’t care anymore. I’ve lost all love and respect for that show since the death of Liam. It may have been written beautifully by having Mike Corbin come get him but that should not have happened in the first place. The Bold and Beautiful is looking better and better. Really GH how could you break our hearts to pieces especially at Christmas time? Like the words Julia Roberts says in Pretty Woman- Bad bad mistake- HUGE!!!

    19. For once the whole soap opera world was looking forward to an exciting wonderful event of a thriving loving family with a new healthy baby. Why couldn’t it have been as simple as that. Or maybe some problems thrown in on the side but able to get thru them to have a beautiful happy family in the end! I know there are many real life situations like this that need to be addressed also but we need times of happiness and miracles to uplift us too!
