Merle Haggard remembered at his ranch

Merle Haggard remembered at his ranch this past Saturday.  The King of Country Music was remembered by his family and friends on Saturday, April 9, 2016 in a very simply and peaceful funeral at his ranch in Palo Cedro, California.  The funeral was attended by family and close friends with Marty Stuart leading the service..

Marty kicked off the respectful event by saying a few words while Lefty Frizzell’s “I Love You a Thousands Ways” began to play.

A stage full of flowers and beautiful bouquets and Haggard’s home away from home, the Silver Chief stood to protect the funeral goers from some gusty winds on this gloomy and over cast day.

Haggard’s retired band mates or family of those band mates as well as current band mates were there to honor him as well.  Several people performed some songs that Merle had requested himself to be performed at his funeral.  Those songs were: “Precious Memories,” “Life’s Railway to Heaven,” and “Silver Wings.”

Kris Kristofferson sang three songs to honor is friend with the first song being, “For a Moment of Forever,” then “Sing me Back Home,” and to finish it off, Kristofferson and Willie Nelson’s son Micah sang “Pancho and Lefty.”

The final performance of the day would be by 3 of Haggard’s, Ben on Telecaster and Marty & Noel on vocals with “Today I Started Loving you Again.”

All who attended said it was a beautiful heartfelt service worthy of a man who sang true songs from a pure heart.   This was a respectful and simple farewell to a man that spent his life singing real songs for the working man and real Americans across the country.  The Daily Banner believes that Merle Haggard will live forever through his music, his message and everyone’s memories of him.  Rest in peace dear man. Rest in Peace.
