Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors did so well with not only the rating but the comments from across the country about how lovely, wholesome and heartwarming the movie is it is being re-aired on Christmas night. The powers that be over at NBC decided that it really does make for a wonderful family movie and what better time to air it when the family is all together than on Christmas night.

Simply put ‘Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors’ captivated the hearts of 13 million viewers when the TV-movie aired on NBC Thursday night.

The heartwarming film about following your dreams, having faith and keeping love alive despite tough times attracted 13 million viewers and a 1.8 in adults 18-49. It was the most watched movie on broadcast TV in more than 3 years.

Not only was this story told well with respect, love and tenderness, the acting was superb. Young and the Restless fans are very well acquainted with the acting ability of Alyvia Alyn Lind as she portrays Faith Newman, granddaughter of Victor and Nikki Newman and daughter of Nick and Sharon on the much loved soap.

Lind has been young Faith for several years now and the Y&R audience has watched her grow, mature and hone her acting ability. Coat of Many Colors proves to the rest of the world just how talented this young lady really is.

While we are speaking of soaps, it should be mentioned that Hannah Nordberg, a young actress who has recently portrayed Josslyn Jax on General Hospital was also in this movie. She played the part of Lind’s (Dolly’s best friend) who ultimately saves her from humiliation in the classroom and protects her and looks after her after her infant brothers dies. General Hospital viewers were used to seeing Nordberg portray a spoiled brat with an attitude on GH but last night she shined in this new role as a protective albeit underprivileged orphan like member of Dolly’s neighborhood.

The big surprise of the night was Jennifer Nettles who portrayed Dolly’s mother. Nettles who is 1/2 of the country act Sugarland really showed her acting chops in this movie. Her timing was spot on and her emotion and delivery was great. As a viewer, this Examiner actually felt the mother-daughter connection between these two actresses.

Rickey Schroder portrayed Dolly’s father and he was excellent in the role. Dolly’s grandfather was portrayed by veteran actor Gerald McRaney. This wonderful ensemble helped to create a magical movie that will be enjoyed for years to come.

Coat of Many Colors has surpassed any Christmas movie seen this season and is sure to become a classic in years to come. Without Christmas trees, twinkling lights or Santa, this movie delivers more spirit, faith, hope and the meaning of family than anything else has delivered in a long while. Thank you Dolly and thank you NBC for re-airing this wonderful treat for the whole family to enjoy together on Christmas night at 9:00 p.m. eastern.
