Open Letter to you Hillary Rodham Clinton
Hillary Rodham Clinton

Dear Hillary:  When I was a little girl, my father told me that I could grow up and be anything I wanted to be.  At that time, John F. Kennedy was President.  My father believed that the country was going in a direction where at some point in the future, a woman could be President. If he were still alive, he would be voting for you. I wanted to take a moment and let you know how I feel and that is why I am penning this Open Letter to you Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Being a female teenager in the 1970’s

Being a female teenager in the 1970’s, it was still a man’s world.  Many people still believed that women should get a high school diploma, get married, stay home having babies, cooking, cleaning and raising families.  Don’t get me wrong, raising children and taking care of your home and family is one of the most important jobs in the world.  Let’s face it we also know it is the something a woman can do in her life that is the most under acknowledged and unappreciated in this country. Not by her children but by society.  In fact, a homemaker who went out into the working world after spending 10 or 15 years at home had a very tough time making a case for herself that she was worthy of hiring. Many of us forged forward regardless.  We enlisted or hired babysitters, daycare’s and family to help us in our journey.  You are right Hillary, “It does take a village.”

Nobody multi-tasks like a woman

In fact, there were time, (mostly when Republicans were in office) that it became necessary for some women to get jobs because the economy was so bad and there was just no other choice.  This gave rise to the fact that woman could not only raise families and work, but they in fact excelled at it.  Nobody multi-tasks better than a woman and there are many men that will vouch for that.   Nobody and I mean nobody multi-tasks better than you Hillary.

I never wanted to be President

I personally never wanted to be President.  Who would want to take on that kind of responsibility?  You would have to be a really special kind of person who has done public service all of her life and totally sure of herself or insane.  We all know which you are and which your opponent is but I digress.  You have seen that job up close and personal and you know what it takes to get the job done.  I firmly believe that you would not be in this race if you didn’t think you had what it takes to get the job done.  You’ve been there and sampled that.  Diplomats and other world leaders that have worked with you give you rave reviews regarding your ability, temperament and kindness.  That says so much.

I wanted to be Perry Mason & Donna Reed

The little girl in me always believed that in our country we could do and be what we wanted.  I daydreamed of winning battles in the courtroom as a defense attorney like Perry Mason.  I also dreamed of being a homemaker and married to a doctor like Alex Stone on the Donna Reed Show.  Yes, I wanted a career and a family.  I had big dreams and I made them all happen because I believed in myself and followed my dreams.

Lucille Ball & Hillary Clinton

I watched Lucy get into schemes way over her head on reruns of “I Love Lucy.”  Those schemes always ended in a smile and a kiss from Ricky.  The underlying theme of that show was that Lucy was a woman before her time.  No matter what the 1950’s and 1960’s dictated she should be, she was going to do it her way and her way she did.  I wanted to be like Lucy.  I have managed to work in all these areas and fulfill my dreams because of being influenced by strong women like you.

Lucille Ball was a pioneer woman who built a television empire and to this day is respected and revered.  Hillary Clinton, you are a bigger pioneer because you dared to enter and work in the world of the biggest boys club ever in our country, ‘POLITICS.’  What a strong and brave woman you are.  No matter how many times the boys put up their signs, “No girls allowed,” you have ripped the signs down and marched right in.  You are a warrior.

My Mother and Grandmothers

My mother went out into the working world after giving birth to five children.  When I was 11 years old, my mother had to get a job outside of the house to help make ends meet.  We (my older sister and I) helped take care of the younger kids.  I watched as my mother went from the lowest position at Metropolitan Life to one of the highest positions in the company.  My mother’s mother, a divorced woman supported herself in the 1960’s and showed me you didn’t need a man to take care of you because she didn’t.  My father’s mother showed me that if you chose to be in a marriage, you could have it all, a family, a job, a home and a career.  Both my grandmothers were secretaries, one in a small company and one in a large company.  All the women in my life showed me by example that we could survive in a man’s world however, we all did it with less pay than a man even when we were doing the same job.

Move over boys

Hillary, simply put, you rock.  You showed them you could survive in a man’s world. You did so in Arkansas as first lady and then again as first lady in the White House.  In retrospect, you followed former first lady tradition but you also fought for women and children you multi-tasker you.   When you left the White House, you didn’t retire comfortably as you could have; instead you became the first woman Senator in the state of New York in the year 2000.  During all of this, you ran your household and stood by your husband who was having health problems while working your buttock off as Senator.  In 2008, when you lost the nomination to Barack Obama, you could have packed it in and went home. Instead, you took his hand in unity and accepted the position of Secretary of State.  You know how to mend fences and you know how to take care of business.  You have proven this time and time again.

Policies and plans

You Hillary have real policies and forward moving and comprehensive thinking plans for our country.  Your opponent does not.  You understand the need to protect Mother Earth, you understand the need to fix or repair the Health Care system or what people refer to as Obama Care.  You understand that a mass exodus on the country of undocumented immigrants would cause chaos and the shattering of families across the country.  Most importantly, you understand that in America, we build bridges to form unions and connections not only in this country but with other countries as well.  You are going to make sure that women start getting equal pay for equal work. You understand that the United States of America is a leader of democracy that does not judge anybody for their race or their religion.   I could go on as you have many more policies, but you get the point and hopefully by now everyone else does as well.  You have polices and plans in place, your opponent does not, at least not any that can be acted on because they are pipe dreams that just won’t work.

Grandmother Hillary Clinton

When it was announced that you were considering running for President, I prayed you would.  I knew that filling Barack Obama’s shoes was going to be a big task and I felt you were the only person truly up for the task at this time in our country.  Hillary, I too am a grandmother.  I know the joys of that special honor.  I know you must have struggled with this decision because it would have been so easy to just say, “NO.”

You could have decided to stay home and play peek a boo with your grandchildren but you didn’t.  When I asked myself why you didn’t elect to retire and stay home and play with your grandkids, the answer was clear.  The need to make the world a safe and secure place for your beautiful grandchildren was stronger than any other need.

You wanted to make sure the world was safe and secure for my grandchildren because that is who you are.  That is who you have always been.  So many ask me if, “I am just voting for Hillary because she is a woman?”  I tell them, I am voting for Hillary because she is “Qualified, more qualified than anyone else who tried to run.

Over Qualified

Throughout this entire election, I have felt so insulted for you that the Republicans would nominate a guttersnipe with no manners, no class and no knowledge of the job.  I was appalled that you had to debate this ignoramus in public but the debates did show everybody how unqualified and unfit your opponent is.   I grew up in New York and spent the first 38 years of my life there.  I know from where I speak.  It is quite telling that there is not ONE (1) New York publication endorsement for him.  Why people can’t see that is beyond me.  When I heard that Trump was considering running, I thought it was somebody’s idea of a bad joke.

Thank you Hillary

I want to thank you Hillary for your efforts thus far, for putting up with the relentless attacks on your family and character.  You have given your life to try and make things better for us in the America that you love so much.  You are a patriot, a true pioneer, a woman, a wife, a mother, a grandmother and you will the first Woman President of the United States.

Am I voting for Hillary Clinton just because she is a woman?  No, but it sure makes it even more important because it will be an historical event for this country.  To be able to say, “Madam President,” will sure be the icing on top of the proverbial cake.  As a woman, I am damn proud that she busted the glass ceiling and is/was the first women to run for President of the United States in a major party. Nobody can ever change that, it is now one for this history books.  The shattering of that glass insures that our daughters and granddaughters have the possibility of being President of the United States one day if that is what they want to do.  You show us anything is possible and you give us HOPE FOR THE FUTURE.

Update:  Dear Hillary, You have inspired us all to be more involved and to never give up.  You are still our hope for the future.  You are still  needed and necessary in our fights for democracy.  If anything, we need you now more than ever.  After a bit of a rest, please join us in our fight for equality in OUR AMERICA.

Please enjoy this song which was written to inspire effort and hope for the future!

    1. I could totally relate to the writer’s description of what it was like back then. And Hillary? I’m thinking the presidential election results should not be reported until ALL votes are in. In other words, don’t concede. We know you’re on the right road, not the road right. Why is everybody in such a hurry? This is THE most important job on this planet, because everyone out there who has a peaceful heart needs you, so why ‘would’ we rush the count? I’m very shocked how many votes are still out there! They deserve to be heard.

    2. Dear Madam President,
obviously more Americans wanted you to be President and I’m hoping the Electoral College does their job in accordance with the constitutional reason they were created, on Dec. 19.
