Coat of Many Colors steals hearts

Dolly Parton Coat of Many Colors 2Coat of Many Colors aired last night to rave reviews.  Rolling Stone Magazine and Variety are saying that Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors not only had the most viewers during their time slot than any other program on TV, it did so leaving a lasting impression on viewers.

Early numbers are in and it is very clear that Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors was the most watched TV show.  The Daily Banner lunch crew got together and had a viewing party.  Words that traveled around the room were captivating, warming, endearing without being corny and wonderful.

This made for TV movie aired on NBC has just the right amount of everything to make this a perfect holiday time release without a Christmas tree, or Santa or even snow in the Smokey Mountains, it still felt like Christmas.  The heartwarming film about following your dreams, having faith and keeping love alive despite tough times attracted 13 million viewers and a 1.8 in adults 18-49. It was the most watched movie on broadcast TV in more than 3 years.

The superb acting and perfect casting had lots to do with the film’s success.  Young and the Restless fans are no strangers to the wonderful acting ability of Alyvia Alyn Lind.  Alyvia portrays Faith Newman, granddaughter of Victor and Nikki Newman and daughter of Nick and Sharon.  Lind continues to grow up on this show and the viewers are hoping she sticks around.

Another young soap actress also had a role in this movie.  Hannah Nordberg, who has recently portrayed Josslyn Jax on General Hospital, played the part of Lind’s (Dolly’s best friend) who ultimately saves her from humiliation in the classroom.  She then goes on to protect her from bullies and looks after her after the death of her infant brother.  This was quite a departure from the role Nordberg normally plays on General Hospital which is a spoiled brat with an attitude.

Jennifer Nettles of the country duo SUGARLAND was the big surprise of the night.  She portrayed Dolly’s mother and she really showed her acting chops in this movie.  Her timing was spot on and her emotion and delivery was great.

NBC and Miss Parton really outdid themselves with this movie,  At this time  when viewers are inundated with holiday movies, Dolly’s Coat of Many Colors swoops in and surpasses any Christmas movie seen this season.  This film is sure to become a classic in years to come.  Without Christmas trees, twinkling lights or Santa, this movie delivers more spirit, faith, hope and the meaning of family than anything else has delivered in a long while.  Thank you Miss Dolly Parton and thank you NBC for delivering this wonderful early holiday gift.  If you haven’t seen it yet, it really is a film that should be seen.

    2. It was the most heart warming, down to earth program that has been aired in a very long time. And it is a true family story of a very loved, heart felt happening woman who didn’t allow her faith or values diminish to stardom. I love Dolly Part on always have. She is a true spirit of love, family and helping others. She has never forgotten her roots, where she came from. And that is so important in life. It brought me back to my own childhood, with my parents raising us, though Dolly didn’t have a blended family as I, did, it still reminded me of how hard it was for my parents caring for us. And meeting the demands of this hard world we live in. The basics and love and our faith in God is all we need and hard work with determination in ourselves. If we all lived that way now this old cruel world would be a happier place. Thank you Dolly for sharing your story with all of Us, and bringing us back to a more simple, loving , caring way of life. I can honestly say, I love you! Connie
